Occupational Therapy Flooring Area for a Special School

Return to view all Projects

The Brief

We were tasked to provide a bright and colourful soft floor area for an Occupational Therapy room in an Special Educational Needs school – the floor had to be hygienic and easy to care for.

Once in place the flooring would be used by children with very limited movement and also allow the staff to work with the children while sitting of kneeling for long periods of time.

The Solution

We sent the schools staff our 54 colour options for our CRIB 5 leatherette, this gave them an excellent opportunity to mix and match colours of their choice.

Once colour options were selected we manufactured the panels to fit perfectly in the required area.

One ‘little extra’ we added to the padding was to chamfer the leading edge – this allows for a smoother transition from the lino flooring to the padded surface, preventing tripping and allowing a wheelchair to be pushed onto the padded area.

The Result

The result was some very happy Occupational Therapists!

The vibrant colours, soft touch and easy care of the flooring was just what they were looking for, and the addition of a chamfered edge to the panels went down a treat too as it helps to avoid tripping.

Time On Site

It took just over 2 hours to install the flooring (and have a cup of tea) after a 10 day turnaround in manufacturing.

“The Apex padding system turned out far better than we had hoped for. It doesn’t even look like padding!”
